Ingredients

Hummus Ingredients
  • 1 can chickpeas drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil plus extra for drizzling
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt or more to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Pinch cayenne pepper optional
  • 2-4 tablespoons water to reach desired consistency
Dippers
  • Assorted vegetables for dipping (carrots, celery, cucumber, bell peppers)

Method

  1. Combine chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, salt, cumin, and cayenne pepper (if using) in a food processor.
  2. Process until smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
  3. With the food processor running, slowly add water, one tablespoon at a time, until the hummus reaches your desired consistency.
  4. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Add more lemon juice for extra zest, or more salt to taste.
  5. Transfer hummus to a serving bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with a pinch of cayenne pepper or cumin, if desired.
  6. Serve with assorted vegetables for dipping.

Notes

For a smoother hummus, peel the skins off the chickpeas before blending.
